Thank you, High School Heroes!

June 17, 2024

For over the past 20 years the °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ¹ÙÍøIAB/°ÅÀÖÊÓƵ¹ÙÍøHS School of Business, in partnership with Junior Achievement, has coordinated the High School Heroes program which trains high school students to teach basic business/civic lessons to elementary school students grades K-5. Junior Achievement provides all of the teaching materials for each grade level program allowing our high school students to have the resources to teach and enjoy their experiences.

This year we had all seven °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ¹ÙÍøelementary schools participate with over 114 elementary classrooms throughout the school district. This program involves students from both HSW and HSE who register and are trained in the grade level they are chosen to teach. Over 375 high school students registered to teach the over 2,500 elementary school students this past spring. This experience is so rewarding for both “student teachers” and elementary school students who participate in interactive lessons that engage all students and provide real world work experiences for the high school students.

A special thank you to all of the elementary school principals and their secretarial staff for helping to organize this tremendous program.

This program is organized under the supervision of our CTE/Business Department, Christine LoFrese - Director of CTE, with coordinators from both HSE and HSW (Cindy Wood / Denise Massimo - HSW & Doreen Kelly - HSE) who facilitate the recruitment process for this program. Mr. Phil Como, °ÅÀÖÊÓƵ¹ÙÍøSchools Work Based Learning Coordinator, works with elementary school administrators/staff to organize each teaching day and to ensure that each day is a positive experience for all.
